EVERGREEN NEW HAVEN
Building from zero is a gamble. Buying an existing business is a strategy.
Starting a company from scratch is difficult. Evergreen New Haven helps aspiring owner-operators learn how to buy established businesses, and step into a positive cash-flow operation on day one.
ABOUT EVERGREEN NEW HAVEN
Evergreen New Haven is designed to provide potential owner-operators the tools they need to acquire and run a successful existing business. It makes the path of economic mobility and wealth creation accessible and immediately actionable by putting New Haven entrepreneurs in position to acquire businesses that have, or will come to market, as a result of the coming wave of baby boomer retirements known as the “Silver Tsunami.” Evergreen New Haven, our Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) program, ensures our community’s entrepreneurs aren't left out of this transition.
Acquiring an established company, means stepping into a business that already has a loyal customer base, a recognized brand, a proven operational structure, and—most importantly—positive cash flow on day one. This foundation changes the math for new owners by drastically reducing the failure risk, and increasing the opportunity to access capital. Through Evergreen New Haven, we’re doing more than helping entrepreneurs start businesses; we are positioning New Haven leaders to take the reins of successful companies, preserve local jobs, and build generational wealth.
The Model
The Business Acquisition Collective
At the center of Evergreen is the business acquisition collective: a mission-governed entity that provides the shared infrastructure, capital access, and governance systems individual owner-operators need to acquire and sustain businesses - without going it alone. Equally important, the collective functions as an ongoing hub for its members: a source of continuous resources, expertise, peer knowledge, and operational support from experienced owners and operators already within the entity. Membership in Evergreen is not just about getting into a business - it is about belonging to a system that actively helps you optimize, grow, and lead once you are in.
The collective is neither a traditional cooperative nor a venture fund. It is a structured ownership system in which participants who acquire businesses become Shareholder Members of a shared entity that pools resources, enables coordinated deal-making, and protects the long-term stewardship mission through a layered governance architecture. No single capital partner, board member, or leader can redirect the mission - that protection is built into the structure itself, not assumed through goodwill.
In practice, individual operators hold majority ownership and full decision-making authority over the businesses they acquire, while the collective provides the capital stack, advisory bench, and governance framework that makes acquisition possible and durable. Each acquisition strengthens the whole - and over time, the system grows a self-reinforcing portfolio of locally owned, community-serving businesses anchored in New Haven.

AN ACQUISITION READINESS PROGRAM
Evergreen New Haven is open to aspiring owner-operators interested in a rigorous, multi-month applied learning experience designed specifically for business acquisition.
The curriculum spans seven phases, progressing from ownership identity and community wealth principles through business fundamentals, deal sourcing and due diligence, acquisition structuring and financing.
